Frito-Lay was formed by the 1961 merger of the Frito Company, founded by Elmer Doolin in 1932 and the H. W. Lay Company, founded by Herman M. Kendall also in 1932. In 1965 the merger of Frito-Lay and Pepsi-cola created the new company of PepsiCo, now the parent company of Frito-Lay.
